What Granel does and doesn’t do

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Granel is a CTRM for physical commodity trading teams: it takes each deal from contract to cash, with its P&L. It does not cover everything, and we would rather you knew before moving off your spreadsheet. This list describes the product as it is today and gives no development dates, because we do not commit to them.

What it does

  • Deals with their full lifecycle: draft, negotiation, confirmed, shipped, in transit, arrived, delivered, settled and closed, with the checks each step requires.
  • P&L per deal with its cost lines (freight, inland transport, commissions, insurance…), each per container, per tonne or per shipment and in its own currency, plus margins per tonne and as a percentage.
  • Six currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, BRL, ARS and COP. The exchange rate is the ECB’s daily reference rate; ARS and COP, which the ECB does not publish, depend on an additional provider.
  • Logistics and documents: containers with their shipment milestones, documents attached to each deal, and contracts.
  • Payments, claims and settlement of each deal, with reconciliation.
  • Capture from WhatsApp, Telegram or pasted text: an AI model extracts the fields and a user reviews the proposal before the deal is created.
  • Import from Excel or CSV, one row per deal, and from the projections Excel with one deal sheet per deal, which also brings its cost lines and shows, deal by deal, the spreadsheet margin next to Granel's before importing; export to CSV and Excel.
  • API v1 with read-only keys, per organisation.

What it doesn’t do today

WhatWhere it stands today
Hedging and derivativesIt does not record futures or options (ICE, CME, Matif) or match them against the physical position. A deal’s exchange rate can be labelled “hedged”, but the instrument is not stored.
Bank integrationIt does not connect to banks or reconcile against statements: payments are recorded by hand.
Market pricesEach product’s reference prices are entered by hand; there is no connection to exchanges or price-data providers.
Corporate SSOThere is no SAML or OIDC. Users sign in with email and password or with a Google or Microsoft account.
Mandatory second factorEach user decides whether to enable TOTP; an admin cannot require it across the organisation.
Field-level permissionsRoles limit actions, not visibility: every member sees purchase prices and margins.
Self-hosting (on-premise)Granel is offered as a web application; there is no installable version.
XML or scheduled exportExports are CSV and Excel, on demand. There is no XML and no automatic delivery.
Writing through the APIAPI keys only read: they do not create or modify deals. Writes (status changes, comments, notifications) are only made by the mobile app with a user session.
Cost lines when importing rowsImporting one row per deal reads the sale and purchase prices, but not the cost lines: they are added afterwards on each deal. Importing one deal sheet per deal (the projections Excel) does bring them.
Other currenciesOnly the six listed. CHF, CNY and others are not available.
Individual extra usersUsers cannot be added beyond the plan’s limit without changing plan.
